The group of Bone Physiopathology and Biomaterials has performed a thorough characterization of se- veral modifications of polymers and 316 LVM steel and Ti64 alloys, including analyses of thermolectrical and mechanical behaviour as well as biocompatibility tests . The group has progressed in the develop- ment of gene switches for the spatial and temporal regulation of the expression of therapeutic trans- genes, which have been adapted to control osteogenic and angiogenic proteins in tissue engineering applications . Furthermore, the ability of focused ultrasounds and near-infrared irradiation to activate these switches has been demonstrated . Moreover, the group has studied the influence of mechanical stimulation on human cells cultured on biomedical alloys . The clinical scientists of the group have con- tinued their participation in clinical trials for therapeutical interventions in bone-related diseases . The group funded its activities by means of grants from MINECO, ISCIII and research contracts with the industry .
